Women's Tennis Swept by Army on Senior Day

Stephanie Bender was one of three seniors honored today.
HAMILTON, N.Y. (4/10/11) – The Colgate women's tennis team ended its regular season this afternoon with a 7-0 loss to Army at Abrahamson Courts.

The Black Knights earned the doubles point by sweeping all three matches. Captain Stephanie Bender and Jen Marquit were the closest to a victory as their opponents earned the win at 8-6.

In singles, Army did not drop a set and swept all six points. Alex Petrini played the best match of the day for the Raiders at the second spot, but fell short in both sets. She put up a fight in each one as her Army opponent won 7-5, 7-6.

Bender, Marquit and Aberant played their final matches on Colgate's home court this afternoon. Bender finishes the regular season with 13 matches at the top spot for the Raiders. She also teamed up for 19 matches during the dual season. She had a 4-7 mark with Petrini. Marquit played in 15 singles matches and went 6-9 overall after winning yesterday against Lehigh. Had a 9-8 doubles record this dual season so far. Aberant had played in a career-high eight matches as a senior and won her lone match of the year against Le Moyne.

Next up for Colgate is the Patriot League Championship tournament beginning Friday, April 22, and the play is set for three days as the league will crown a champion on Sunday.
