Colgate women’s tennis falls to Mountainhawks

BETHLEHEM, Pa – The Colgate women's tennis team fell to Lehigh on Sunday afternoon, by a score of 5-2. The squad won the doubles point due to wins from lines one and three, then senior captain Sasha Herman tacked on a win at line five singles.

"Came out of the gate strong with excellent energy in doubles," said Head Coach Damien Prohaska. "We met our standard for how we wanted to start and I was very happy with our compete level and execution in doubles. Great to be rewarded with the doubles point after competing at that level. We lost our grip on most matches early on in singles, and it's too difficult to dig yourself out of that type of hole against a team like Lehigh. But we'll learn from this, be sharper mentally and I know we'll have a strong bounce back against Bucknell."

The Mountainhawks jumped out to an early lead in the doubles point, winning 6-2 at line two over Herman and junior Carina Cristobal. However, the Raiders would bounce back with a win at line one, courtesy of senior captain Amelia Galin and junior Sophia Montero 6-2. Sophomore Rebecca Hess and junior Avery Isaac would clinch the point with a 6-3 win.

Lehigh would prove to be the stronger opponent in singles, winning five out of the six singles matches. Herman won in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 at line five for the squad's only other point. Hess lost a three set battle, 6-4, 1-6, (7-10).

The Raiders return to action on Saturday, where they will travel to Bucknell for their match at 11 a.m.
