Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. – The Colgate women's tennis team swept Holy Cross on Saturday evening to pick up their first Patriot League victory of the season. The Raiders won the doubles point by sweeping all three matches, then proceeded to win lines one through three singles, while also being one game away from victory on each of the remaining three courts when play was called.
The Raiders started off hot in doubles, as senior captain Sasha Herman and junior Carina Cristobal continued their strong form with a 6-1 win at line two. Sophomore Rebecca Hess and junior Avery Isaac would then clinch the point with a 6-4 win at line three, followed by senior captain Amelia Galin and junior Sophia Montero winning 7-6(8) at line one.
Galin would tack on another point for the squad after doubles with a 6-3, 6-2 win at line one. The Raiders then added another win from Hess at line three, 6-1, 7-5 to put them within one win of victory. Sophomore Anya Kunar would deliver that win, with a 1-6, 6-2, 6-1 victory at line three. At lines four, five, and six, Herman was up 7-5, 6-4, Cristobal had a 6-4, 5-2 lead, and first-year Anson Silverfield was up 6-2, 5-1, when the match was clinched.
The Raiders return to action on Monday, where they will take on Point Loma in San Diego for their Spring Break trip.
