Colgate women’s tennis takes down Leopards 4-2

EASTON, Pa. – The Colgate women's tennis team picked up a big conference win over Patriot League opposition in Lafayette on Saturday night. The Raiders took the doubles point, then wins from junior Sophia Montero, sophomore Rebecca Hess, and junior Carina Cristobal with the clinch brought the squad the win.

"Lafayette brought a great level today and made us work for everything," said head coach Damien Prohaska. "I really liked our ability to problem-solve, our composure on big points and the energy we brought. A well deserved and gritty win all around."

The Leopards jumped out to an early lead in the doubles point with a win at line one, but for the Raiders the duo of junior Avery Isaac and Hess won 6-1 at line three, followed by Cristobal and senior captain Sasha Herman at line two to seal the point.

In singles action, the Raiders were able to add onto their lead with a 6-4, 6-1 win by Hess at line three. Montero would follow with a gritty 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 win at line two to put the squad one win away. Senior captain Amelia Galin fell in three sets at line one, but Cristobal was able to seal the win 6-4, 6-2 at line six.

The Raiders return to action on Sunday, where they will head to Bethlehem to take on Lehigh in another Patriot League matchup at 1 p.m.
