Bearcats defeat the Raiders 6-1

BINGHAMTON - The Colgate Men's Tennis team fell to reigning NEC conference champs Binghamton on Sunday night by a score of 6-1. The lone win came from junior Jerome Falcon at line six.

"Definitely a very tough result and missed opportunity for the boys yesterday," said Head Coach Bobby Pennington. "We came out a bit flat and didn't play our typical clean doubles with high energy. We were outplayed at 1 and 2 singles and had plenty of chances at 3 thru 6. Credit to Jerome for winning in straight and for Witt and Tim battling. Now our second biggest season begins with conference play starting with Holy Cross and Boston next weekend. We shall be more than ready."

The Bearcats started out hot in doubles, defeating senior captain John Fazli and first-year Adam Fink 6-2 at line three. They would then clinch the point with a 6-4 victory over junior Parker McGowan and first-year Tim Vargas. Senior captain Aidan Chung and sophomore Tim Viding fell in a tiebreaker after the point was clinched.

Binghamton continued their strong form with straight set wins over sophomore Lochlan Seth and senior captain Aidan Lee at lines one and two, respectively. However, Falcon was able to wrestle some momentum back to the Raiders with a 6-3, 6-4 win at line six. The Bearcats would then clinch the match with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Chung at line five. Vargas was up 6-3, 5-6 before he retired at line four, and first-year Wittman Bulger lost 3-6, 6-2, 6-7(1) in a thriller after the match was clinched.

The Raiders return to action on Friday, where they will travel to Worcester to take on Holy Cross at noon for their first Patriot League action of the season.
