Raiders defeat Rochester 7-0 on Senior Day and Annual Heart Awareness Match

HAMILTON - The Colgate men's tennis team swept Rochester on Sunday afternoon to pick up their seventh win of the season. The Raiders were playing their Annual Heart Awareness Match, which they do annually against Rochester, as well as celebrating their three senior captains, Aidan Chung, John Fazli, and Aidan Lee

"Today was a great way to go out for the seniors playing their last regular season match and finishing with a shut out of Rochester," said Head Coach Bobby Pennington. "It's definitely been an up-and-down year with a lot of brutal four- three defeats, but we're keeping our heads held high and trying to get ready for the tournament with our seventh one of the season. We came out sharp today from the start and doubles played a great doubles point and swept the singles. I'm very proud of Lee, Chung and Faz for the contributions to myself in the program over the years and it was a very emotional day recognizing my son, Cliff, and children's heart awareness. Now we must regroup for the tournament."

The Raiders started off strong in doubles, as Chung and sophomore Tim Viding picked up a very quick 6-1 victory at line one doubles. Fazli and Lee would clinch the point at line three with a 6-1 victory shortly after. Junior Parker McGowan and first-year Tim Vargas would add on a 6-2 win at line two.

In singles action, the squad continued to dominate. Sophomore Lochlan Seth won his match at line one without dropping a single game, followed by Lee with a 7-5, 6-2 win at line two. Vargas would clinch the match with a 6-4, 6-4 win at line three. Chung tacked on a 7-5, 6-1 victory at line five, McGowan won 6-1, 6-0 at line five, and first-year Adam Fink picked up his first ever dual singles victory for Colgate with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph at six.

The Raiders return to action on Friday, where they will head to Lehigh for the Patriot League Tournament, matchup and time still TBD.
