Men’s Tennis Prepares for Fall Season Action

Pennington’s 20th season kicks off Friday at the Binghamton Invite

HAMILTON - The Colgate men's tennis team is getting ready for their fall season opening invite, which will take place from Friday, Sept. 12 through Sunday, Sept. 14. The squad, led by Bobby Pennington at the helm, looks to build on a successful previous season, in which they finished the regular season with 12 wins. The squad returns eight letter winners from last year, and adds four new first-years.

"Coming off a huge 180 degree turnaround last year, where we went 12-8 and tied for fourth in the league, the men have high hopes, goals, and expectations," said Pennington. "We have a combination of outstanding captains and quality returning underclassmen, along with a strong recruiting class. With me for the first time focusing on one team and the culture we have built over twenty years, we look to make a strong push to the top of the Patriot League."

The three senior captains, Aidan Lee, Aidan Chung, and John Fazli look to cap their careers off with one more successful season. Lee played to a winning record at line three last season, picking up eight singles wins overall on the campaign, including a win in the tournament against Army. Chung also had a strong season on the doubles front, teaming up with Fazli and sophomore Tim Viding for ten total doubles wins.

"We've got a squad of 12 guys who are willing to give everything to this program," said Fazli. "The first years are mature and hard working and are looking to make a statement in the league this year. Additionally, my fellow captains Chung and Lee are practically my brothers and I look forward to competing with them one last time this fall and spring. I am beyond excited to see what we can accomplish together."

The returners, juniors Parker McGowan and Jerome Falcon, along with sophomores Lochlan Seth, Wesley Nichols, and Viding, look to add onto the squad's depth. McGowan and Falcon teamed up for a team-high 16-4 doubles record, with Falcon also adding 13 singles wins, including one in the tournament against Army. Seth looks to pick up where he left off, as he played to an 8-3 record, heavily contributing to the squad's success in the second half of the season. Viding also played a major role, picking up 16 total combined singles and doubles wins last season.

The incoming first-years, Witt Bulger from Mill Valley, California, Adam Fink from Chappaqua, New York, Tim Vargas from Duxbury, Massachusetts, and Nolan Bohan from Pawleys Island, South Carolina, all look to make an immediate impact on the squad's depth.

Following the Raiders' first action at Binghamton, Colgate will head to New Haven, Conn. for the ITA Regional from Oct. 9 - Oct. 12.
