Four Raiders Finish in Top-Five at Binghamton Invitational

Weitz claims bronze as Colgate collects 12 wins overall

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – Colgate men's tennis continued their fall campaign at the Binghamton Invitational this weekend, where junior Mikey Weitz beat competitors from Army and Niagara en route to a third-place finish in the Singles H Flight.

Junior Ben Graham also won two matches in Binghamton where Colgate ended with seven singles victories and five doubles triumphs across the three-day tournament.

"I thought the men had a great weekend," Assistant Coach Rob Israel said. "Our fitness, on-court urgency, and shot selection led to some big wins for our guys. We're excited to get back to work, compete well at ITAs, and end our fall on a high note at Wagner."

None of this weekend's wins were bigger than junior Josh Israel's colossal upset against two-time Northeast-10 First-Team selection Peter Hatton. The junior from LeMoyne College was the top-ranked player at the invite but fell to Israel in three sets (6-2, 4-6, 10-8). Israel went on to finish fourth in the Singles A flight after dropping the third-place match to Buffalo's top player. Junior Benito Vlassis also finished fourth, notching a win against Samuel Haikal of Army in Singles C.

In doubles action, the Raiders rebounded to win four matches in two days after only taking one victory in the first 24 hours of the invitational. Graham and sophomore Aidan Lee were responsible for the day one victory, while the sophomore duo of John Fazli and Aidan Chung fell in a tightly contested, 6-7 decision to Siena.

On day two, the first-year pair of Parker McGowan and Jerome Falcon beat the hosts from Binghamton and Vlassis/Israel took down Niagra, 7-6. Graham/Lee tacked on another victory on the third day of competition while Falcon/McGowan recorded their second win of the tournament.
