HAMILTON — Colgate field hockey senior
Rachel Alderfer was named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week, announced Monday.
Alderfer helped lead the Raiders' backline in a 2-1 overtime victory against Rider last Sunday, shutting down the Broncs on several scoring chances. She played the entire game, logging 65 minutes of action.
The defender recorded two defensive saves in the game, which occurred back-to-back. With just over ten and a half minutes remaining in the fourth, Alderfer stopped a shot in mid-air from Rider from point-blank range. She then swatted away the follow-up shot to deny Rider again.
During Friday's season opener, Alderfer also helped guide the Raiders defense and recorded a shot.
This is the first time in her career that the Norristown, Pa. native has earned a weekly award from the conference. Last season, she was named to the All-Patriot League Second Team.
The Raiders are back in action Friday, hosting Sacred Heart at 4 p.m.
