Four Raiders Win at Men’s ITA Regional

Israel, Weitz and McGowan/Falcon advanced to second-round

NEW HAVEN, CONN. – Colgate men's tennis competed at the ITA Regional this past weekend, winning three matches that advanced Colgate student-athletes past the first round for only the second time in program history.

Last season, three Raiders set Colgate records as the first student-athletes to win their opening singles matchups in the ITA Regional competition. This year, two more Raiders, Mikey Weitz and Josh Israel,, advanced past the first round of singles action, while the duo of Jerome Falcon and Parker McGowan made it to the second stage in doubles.

"It was a very lengthy and productive weekend for the men playing the best of the best from our region at Yale," Head Coach Bobby Pennington said. "It is quite impressive and humbling to see how strong the levels of competition are and how other schools in the region continue to improve. We are always maximizing everything we have to offer, including results."

Weitz was able to punch his ticket with a dominating day-one victory against Stonehill, 6-0, 6-1. While he would go on to drop his second-round bout to Dartmouth, Israel was able to knock off Marist, 7-5, 6-4, elsewhere in singles action.

Sophomore Aidan Lee nearly mounted an upset against Boston College, but dropped a tight one to the Golden Eagles, 4-6, 4-6. Junior Ben Graham, who advanced in last year's ITA Regional at Army, could not take down Hofstra and lost in three sets (3-6, 6-3, 1-6). Falcon also brought Bryant to the brink, narrowly falling 7-2, 2-6, 3-6.

In doubles play, McGowan and Falcon defeated Sacred Heart 8-3 before bowing out in the second round to Dartmouth.
