HAMILTON —Emily Amano scored her first goal of the season to help the Colgate women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Boston University at Beyer-Small '76 Field Wednesday.
Amano's goal came in the 58th minute.
Maddie Cappillo played a pass to the top of the box that Amano one-timed into the top right corner of the goal to give the Raiders a 1-0 lead.
Colgate nearly got on the board early when
Ellie Stokes fired a shot in the third minute that went just over the bar. A minute and a half later,
Ally Giovino ripped a shot that also just missed.
In the 27th minute,
Sara Anelli received a pass and fired a shot from close range that got saved on a diving attempt by the BU goalie.
Just over a minute into the second half, Giovino ripped another shot but got denied by the Terriers' goalie.
Colgate had back-to-back corner kicks beginning in the 57th minute, but could not get anything going during them. The Raiders had another corner in the 72nd minute that they were unable to capitalize on.
Ari Bezanson had a chance to double the Raiders' lead with a pair of shots late in the game, but she could not convert on either.
Emma Hickey recorded three saves in net for the Raiders. The junior came up with a big stop on a shot in the 87th minute to deny the Terriers a potential equalizer. It was Hickey's first shutout of the season and the third of her career.
Colgate logged three shots in the game, including one on goal. The Raiders also finished with five corner kicks in the game, four of which came in the second half.

"I'm really proud and happy for our group today. The season to this point has been challenging obviously, but we've encouraged the girls to stay committed to the process and each other. Today they did those things and we got a great result against a talented BU team. I thought the effort from the entire group was focused, disciplined, and gritty. I'm glad to see us learn from some of the lessons we've had through other games and apply it to today's performance. Kudos to getting a well-earned shutout and it was definitely good to see the ball hit the net for us. Winning is hard, so we'll definitely enjoy it and the welcome feeling of getting a result, then head into preparation for another tough game this weekend at Bucknell."
