SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Colgate women's tennis team opened up Patriot League play with a 7-0 loss to Army.
 
Highlighting the day for the Raiders at No. 2 singles was first-year Sara De Oliveira. She won the first set 7-5 but lost the second to force a third set. The final set was a close one as De Oliveira fell 10-8.
 
Junior Nicole Condas played well at No. 6 singles for the Raiders as she played a total of 18 games, losing the first set 6-2 and falling in a competitive second set 6-4.
 
With the loss, the Raiders are now 1-1 on the season and 0-1 in conference play.

On the women's performance, head coach Bobby Pennington said, "A humbling day for our ladies today. Army showed why they win the league consistently with their toughness and physicality. After a slow start in doubles, we had some ladies really battle in singles.
 
"First-year Sara De Oliveira came within points of winning at No. 2 singles and is making a case for Patriot League Rookie of the Year. Credit to Nicole Condas for battling at No. 6 singles until the bitter end. We must now regroup to battle St. Bonaventure."
 
UP NEXT
The Raiders will travel to take on St. Bonaventure on March 14 with a time yet to be determined.
