Women's Lacrosse Announces Nine Additions

Nine Student-Athletes to Join Women's Lacrosse for 2021 Season

HAMILTON – A nine-player freshman class is slated to join the Colgate women's lacrosse program for the 2021 season, as announced by the coaching staff.

The four attacks, three defenders, one midfielder, and one goalkeeper are to join the 20 returners to the program for the 2021 campaign. The Class of 2024 hails from three different states, including six New York natives, two from Massachusetts, and one from New Jersey.

'We are very excited about the impending arrival of the 2020 freshman class this coming fall," women's lacrosse head coach Kathy Taylor said. "The group has a plethora of different talents that will strengthen our team and depth across all positions."

The Raiders lost nine players to the Class of 2020 and will have eight seniors leading the program for the upcoming season. Similar to the Raiders 2020 season that was cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic, the incoming class was not able to compete in their senior seasons.

On the incomers, Taylor said: "We welcome the arrival of netminder Amelia Cunningham after the graduation of goalie Samantha Croston. In the defensive end of the field Sophie Browne and Kate Barcia as well as Sarah Miller will lend assistance to several vacated defensive spots due to the graduation of Alissa Masini, Isabel Van Wie, Lexi Luthringer and Ingrid Backe.

"Bringing some much-anticipated speed to the Colgate midfield which will assist with our new style of play will be Kyra Lucey and Emily Ullman. The retooled offense after the loss of Payton Gabriel and Lindsay West will benefit from strong attacking sticks in Margaret Noble, Catherine Lang and lefty Cara Charette.

"We look forward to incorporating the young players into the team fold as we continue to strive for excellence in the ever-changing game of women's lacrosse. Next year should be fun to watch as we continue to implement more sophistication into our offense and build on the work we did this year in our transition and defensive game."
