LATHAM, N.Y. – The Colgate women's tennis team battled hard Friday night but fell 6-1 to the Siena Saints at Tri-City Tennis Courts.
MacKenzie Deeter (Wadsworth, Ohio) and
Jordan Williams (Fort Washington, Maryland) earned their second consecutive win at No. 1 doubles as they overcame a tight match to win, 7-6 with a 9-7 score in the tiebreaker set. That win ended Siena's bid for a doubles sweep after already securing the point.
Four of the six singles matches went to three sets to show the Raiders poise. Trailing 3-0 in the match,
Lauren O'Brien (Leawood, Kansas) fell to Kylie Mullaney to drop the match. With action still going on, first-year
Elinor Simek earned her first career win in a dual match for Colgate's lone point as she battled back from a first-set loss.

"Unbelievably tough result and heartbreaker for our ladies. They played their hearts out, losing three matches in three sets that went the distance. Game ball goes to
Elinor Simek who won her first match. If we play the big points better, with a little more confidence we win that match 4-3. I can't say enough what a great group of ladies we have. They are so coachable. I'm confident more wins are ahead."
