SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Colgate women's tennis team got the 2018 season started Friday afternoon with a challenging match against Syracuse at the Drumlins Tennis Club, falling to the Orange, 7-0.
 
Colgate battled all match long in a difficult non-conference matchup with an ACC opponent but ultimately fell to the Orange.
 
Kelly Klein (Ross, California) led the Raiders as she won three games in the second set of her singles match against Libi Mesh before dropping the match 6-0, 6-3.
 
Overall, the Raiders won seven games in their difficult season-opening match.

"I can comfortably say that is the best team my ladies have faced in my 12 years here. The good news is we won't see a ball that big or strong the rest of the year. I was very impressed by the attitude and demeanor of our women. Captain Kelly Klein stayed on court the longest and was close in the second set. We now turn our attention to Niagara on Sunday. We battled them successfully in the fall and look forward to bouncing back. "
