Dardis Claims Match-Clinching Win at Rochester

Raiders' Sophomore Comes Up Big For Second Straight Week

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Colgate men's tennis team played another, hard fought battle Saturday afternoon and came away with the 6-3 victory against the regionally ranked No. 18 Rochester Yellow Jackets.

Colgate improved to 3-0 to open up a season for the first time since 2013-14 when the Raiders opened 4-0 that season.

The Raiders dropped two of the three doubles matches to trail early in the match, 2-1. Win Reynolds (Houston, Texas) and Jake Hirschberg (Westport, Connecticut) earned the lone doubles win for the Raiders with an 8-6 decision.

Hirschberg and Reynolds were the only two Raiders to win both matches on Saturday as they single-handedly brought the Raiders within two matches of beating the Yellow Jackets.

After dropping the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles matches, the Raiders came alive in singles to win five of the six matches and take the match overall. Four of Colgate's five singles matches were two-set wins, including Alec Dardis' match-clinching 6-2, 6-2 victory over Yifan Shen. Jacob Daugherty (Burke, Virginia) won the only three-set match of the afternoon 6-1, 4-6, 6-1, winning the first and third set in decisive fashion.

FROM THE SOURCE
Head Coach Bobby Pennington
"For the second straight match, the men lost a heartbreaking doubles point and clawed their way back to win the match by playing masterful singles. Our depth is proving to be too much as we won at 4, 5, and 6 singles. I give credit to Rochester for battling us today, but this group of veterans has been through this countless times.  Game balls go to Reynolds and Hirschberg for winning both singles and doubles. Dardis also was the closer for second straight match. We can't wait for a talented FDU squad and the opportunity to get to 4-0."

UP NEXT
The Raiders travel down to Fairleigh Dickinson to face the Knights Sunday at 1 p.m. in Teaneck, New Jersey.
