HAMILTON – The Colgate field hockey team is set to host its fourth annual chili cook-off on Sunday, Oct. 29 during its final game of the 2017 season in conjunction with senior day at Tyler's Field.
Colgate will face Pacific at 2 p.m. with the chili cook-off fundraiser beginning at 1 p.m. The winner of the chili cook-off will be announced at halftime of the game. For anyone interested in participating in cooking your favorite chili recipe, contact
Nathalie Carter by phone at 315-228-6089 or by e-mail at ncarter@colgate.edu.
The Raiders are raising money and awareness for the National Pancreas Foundation and pancreatic cancer research in honor of senior
Caroline Schaefer's (Avon, Connecticut) grandmother who has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer within the past year.
Fans can donate any amount they want before entering the chili cook-off to eat and vote on their favorite recipe made from parents and members of the Colgate community.
First-place of the chili cook-off will receive a $50 Amazon Gift Card while second place gets a $25 Ray Brothers BBQ Gift Card and third place gets a $10 Flour & Salt Bakery Gift Card.
"We have found it to be extremely successful, we've raised a couple thousand dollars every single year," senior
Sarah DeMarco said. "It's a good way for all of us to get involved and invested in something that's bigger than ourselves."

Throughout the week leading up to the game, members of the Colgate field hockey team will get together to make baked goods for their bake sale which they will hold in the O'Connor Campus Center throughout each day during the week.
The Raiders began the chili cook-off during the 2014 season and have raised money for research to fight Multiple Sclerosis, the A.J. Trustey Epilepsy Fund, and Parkinson's disease research.
"Caroline came to us and asked if we would consider doing it this year and there was no objection," DeMarco said. "It is more meaningful when the cause is personal. It's supportive for Caroline to see that all of us are doing this for her and her family as well as everyone else affected by pancreatic cancer."
The National Pancreas Foundation provides hope for those suffering from pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer through funding cutting edge research, advocating for new and better therapies and providing support and education for patients, caregivers, and health care professionals.
Oct. 29 will also serve as senior day for the Raiders where they will honor the five members of the Class of 2018:
Sarah DeMarco,
Molly Klare,
Cady Kopsky,
Maria Krull,
Caroline Schaefer. This season, this class has been a part of three victories, two shutouts and the highest scoring team since the 2014 season and are on pace to give up the fewest goals since the 2011 team allowed 50 goals.
