Raiders Fall to the Great Danes

Claire van Kempen recorded seven saves off 15 total shots.

ALBANY, N.Y. — UAlbany secured a 4–0 victory over Colgate on Sunday at Alumni Turf, with the Great Danes scoring twice in both halves to prevail over the Raiders.

COACH CORNELL-DEANGELIS' COMMENTS
"We didn't play up to their speed in the first half. Once our team started stepping up to the ball and doing the simple pass we competed well with Albany and had 7 shots on goal. We need to play a consistent game and that is our focus this week of doing the simple when we are tired. "

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • UAlbany initiated its attack with a penalty corner in the third minute, marking an early offensive push.
  • Claire van Kempen made a series of key saves, maintaining a scoreless tie throughout the first quarter.
  • The Great Danes attacked early and opened the scoring in the 18th minute.
  • Colgate's Annie Lake and Maddie Rohlfing attempted to respond with consecutive shots, but they were blocked or saved by UAlbany's defense.
  • UAlbany extended its lead to 2-0 after a penalty corner in the 22nd minute.
  • The Raiders' offensive push led to a penalty corner, but consecutive saves by the Great Danes' keeper, Emma Peeters, denied attempts from Lauren Widdowson, Ahria Dhillon, and Morgan Willis
  • The Great Danes extended their lead to 3–0 from a penalty stroke goal.
  • Capitalizing on early pressure, UAlbany scored early in the fourth quarter to extend the lead to 4-0.
  • Van Kempen came up big for the Raiders, saving a penalty shot to halt the Great Danes' lead.
  • Despite several attacking opportunities, the Raiders fell to the Great Danes 4–0.
