Daugherty, Hirschberg, Reynolds Win Singles Matches for Colgate Against Boston University Sunday

HAMILTON – Colgate Men's Tennis suffered a 4-3 setback to Patriot League foe Boston University Sunday at the J. W. Abrahamson Tennis Courts.

Doubles play saw the Raiders top pairing of Jacob Daugherty and Tom Haile post a 6-1 victory over the Terriers No. 1 tandem of Lucas Bombonatti and Satyajit Simhadri, but Boston University claimed the other two matches to earn the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead.

Daugherty and Jake Hirschberg were victorious at No. 1 and No. 5 singles, respectively, to give Colgate a 2-1 lead.

The match came down to the No. 2 singles match between Colgate's Nick Laub and
Boston University's Stefan Lemire. Laub won the first set in a tiebreaker, but Lemire rallied to claim the final two sets to post a 6-7 (8-10), 6-2, 6-4 victory and give the Terriers the one-point victory.

From the Source
Colgate Head Coach Bobby Pennington
"Even though we lost a heartbreaker, I could not be more proud of my team. We lost 7-0 to this team last year and came within a few single points of winning today.

"Credit to Daugherty, Hirschberg and Reynolds for stepping up. The doubles point hurt us in the end, as we are undefeated this season when we win that point. A special thanks to all support we got and all of the love for my son Clifford. The best is yet to be."

Up Next
- Colgate returns to action April 2 with a 2 p.m. match at Patriot League foe Lehigh.
