Raiders Win Third PL Match in Last Four; Sit Alone in Third Place

Nick Laub
LEWISBURG, PA. – The Raiders have won three of its last four conference matches after edging Bucknell, 4-3, on Saturday.

Colgate moved to 3-2 on the season in league play after a gritty performance that came down to the wire. The Raiders are 9-6 overall.

The doubles point was decided after Colgate earned wins at the top two spots. Seniors Luke Gensburg and Bobby Berkowitz combined for an 8-5 win at the No. 1 doubles slot and Archer McFall and Alan Pleat helped seal the point with an 8-4 win at the second spot.

Singles play went back-and-forth and Nick Laub got the Raiders the win with a 7-5, 7-5 win in the fifth spot. Berkowitz and Pleat helped Colgate to the victory with victories at the second and third spots. Berkowitz made quick work of his opponent, dropping only one game in both sets. Pleat won both his sets by identical 6-3 scores.

"Another courageous and gutsy filled performance for the guys today," head coach Bobby Pennington said. "This is the first time the seniors have beaten Bucknell and well worth the wait. Total credit to Nick Laub for being the hero today. We are now in sole third place in the league and still have two matches left in league play."

The Raiders travel to Marist tomorrow and then finish up the regular season next weekend at Lafayette and Lehigh.
