Box Score BETHLEHAM, Pa. - The Colgate men's tennis team dropped a 4-0 result to Lehigh on Sunday afternoon. The Raiders took the first doubles match at line three from senior captain
Aidan Lee and first-year Wittman Bulger, but could not win the point, then Lehigh got the three singles matches they needed.
"Ultimately an extremely disappointing result today and a missed opportunity," said Head Coach Bobby Pennington. "I felt like we played greater third doubles with Witt and Lee winning 6- 4, we were up 5- 4 in both one and two doubles and barely lost each, which was a real punch in the gut. We have four guys take their matches to three sets with Jerome, Chung, Loch and Tim with all four having opportunities to win their matches to give us the 4-3 victory. Playing to clinch you have to be urgent and get your points and I felt like that was a combination of mental and physical fatigue and just not being frankly tough enough to win those matches. Ultimately a very disappointing loss today in conference for the boys. We have four matches left, three of them are League matches leading with Bucknell next weekend so we must do a reset and hopefully learn from today and finish strong."
In doubles, Colgate drew first blood with Bulger and Lee winning 6-4 at line three. However, the Mountainhawks would win lines two and three 7-5 in both to take the point. In singles, Lehigh picked up wins at lines two and three in straight sets, but the Raiders pushed the remaining four matches to third sets. At line one, sophomore Lochlan Seth was at 6-4, 3-6, 2-3, at line four, Tim Vargas was up 1-6, 7-6(4), 1-0, at line five, senior captain Aidan Chung was down 7-5, 1-6, 0-3, and at line six, junior Jerome Falcon fell 2-6, 6-3, 1-6 for Lehigh to clinch the match.
The Raiders return to action on Saturday at 2 p.m, where they will hit the road to take on Bucknell.
