LEWISBURG, Pa. (4/7/12) – The Colgate women's tennis team defeated Bucknell on Friday for its second-straight Patriot League win and third in a row as the Raiders edged out the Bison by a 4-3 score.

It was the first time in five seasons that the Raiders beat Bucknell. Colgate was able to take the doubles point with easy wins at the top and third spot in the lineup. Alex Petrini and Stephanie Brown cruised to an 8-3 win in the top spot, while Merideth Rock and Jackie Finn finished off their opponents quickly with an 8-1 win. The doubles point was huge because the singles play was split down the middle.

There were a couple of battles in singles play with four matches going three sets and two wins went to each team. Petrini came up short in three sets, as did Merideth Rock. Kelsey Shea won at the second position in the lineup with a three-set victory. She won the first set 6-4 and then after dropping the second, came back to win 6-4 in the third. Kelsey Wanhaine was the only Raider to win in straight sets at 6-2, 6-3, at the fourth spots. Olivia Rauh was put in the sixth position and won two-straight sets after falling in the first set. She won both sets by a 6-3 score.

“In my six years this is the proudest I have ever been of the women,” said head coach Bobby Pennington. “This was the first time we have beaten Bucknell in five years and it was because the ladies believed in themselves and were not afraid to lose.”
