HAMILTON, N.Y. (1/30/12) – The Colgate men's tennis team kicked off its 2012 dual season with a pair of losses in Rhode Island against Bryant and Brown.

The Saturday matchup against the Bulldogs was a tight match as the Raider dropped a 4-3 decision, while Brown defeated Colgate, 7-0, on Sunday.

Against Bryant, the Raiders got wins from their top two singles performers in Luke Gensburg and Bobby Berkowitz. Gensburg made quick work of Bryant's top player with a straight-set, 6-0, 6-4, win and then Berkowitz was able to win a three-setter. He took the first set at 6-2 and after dropping the second set, came back with a 7-5 win in the tie-breaker. Alec Goldstein was the third Raider to earn a victory and his came in the fourth spot. He won in straight sets at 6-3, 6-4. The match didn't start out well as the Bulldogs took a hard fought doubles point as two of the three matches were decided by two or less games.

The Raiders then traveled south in the ocean state and took on Brown on Sunday. Colgate didn't fair well as Colgate dropped all matches and fell, 7-0. Rookie Alan Pleat had the most competitive match of the day as he had to go to a third-set tie-breaker. After falling 6-0 in the first set, he came back with a 6-3 win the second. The final set was an intense one, but Pleat fell short by a 10-8 score.

Colgate will be back in action on Feb. 4 and 5 at Duquesne and Robert Morris.
