VERONA, N.Y. (4/2/11) – The Colgate men's tennis team won three of the six singles matches, but dropped the doubles point as the Raiders were edged by a 4-3 margin to Bucknell.
The Bison swept all three doubles matches to earn the important point. The most intense match came at No. 2 as
Luke Gensburg and
Sean Spellberg pushed their match to the final point, but Gregg Cohenca and Mark Malloy earned the 8-7 win.
Bucknell jumped out to a 2-0 lead with the first win in singles after Josh Katten defeated captain
Ruslan Goussiatnikov in the fourth position in straight sets. Gensburg improved to 10-6 this season at the top spot, winning in two sets to bring the Raiders to within one at 2-1.
The Bison increased its lead to 3-1 after winning at the third spot, but captain
Phil Bernasek kept Colgate in the match with a win a No. 5 with a 7-6, 6-3 win.
Bobby Berkowitz made it two straight wins after a three-set match that saw it decided on two tie breakers. The Raiders tied the match at 3-3 with the sixth match still to be determined. In the final match, Kyle Rosen earned the Bison the win with a straight set victory over
Connor Feuille.
Colgate (5-10, 0-3 PL) is back in action on Sunday afternoon as the Raiders take on Lafayette at Turning Stone Resort.
