PATRIOT LEAGUE UPDATE
Colgate sits atop the league standings at 3-0 and is one of four teams out of seven that have played three conference games. Navy is currently in second with a 2-0 record and jumps back into play this weekend after not playing a league game last weekend. The Mids will have their chance to catch the Raiders because Colgate will be at Yale on Saturday. Lehigh and American are tied for third with a 2-1 mark, while Holy Cross, Bucknell and Lafayette remain winless in league play.
WHITE NAMED ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Rookie attacker
Monica White was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week after tying her career high for goals with three against Holy Cross in a 12-8 win. She scored three goals, including the game-winner, in the Raiders' 12-8 win over Holy Cross Saturday. She also had a groundball, a draw control and a caused turnover in the win. White has posted two hat tricks this season and she has scored in six of the Raiders' nine games. She has 12 goals on the season, which is fifth on the team and tied with classmate
Alison Flood for tops among first-year players.
BUBNACK REMAINS AMONG LEADERS
Bubnack enters this week with 47 points on the season, which is fourth in the league overall, but she is averaging 5.22 points per game for second. Navy has two players with 50 or more points and Lauren Dykstra has 54 in 10 games. The two Mids have played in two more games than Bubnack. Bubnack and Dykstra are also fighting for the goal scoring lead as Dykstra's total is 43, while Bubnack has 32 goals. Bubnack is also not afraid to shoot the ball as she is averaging 6.67 shots per game. She has also done her work on the defensive end with a team high 10 caused turnovers.
ROA HAS IMPRESSIVE SECOND HALF
Christina Roa came through with her fifth win of the year and third in a row in Patriot League play with a 12-8 win at Holy Cross on Saturday. She pushed aside 10 shots and reached double-digits for the fourth time this season. She was critical for the Raiders in the second half as she made seven saves and held the Crusaders to 1-for-7 on free-position attempts. Roa made four of her seven stops in the half on FPAs and had back-to-back stops on FPAs when the score was tied at 7-7. So far this year, she has 78 saves and will reach 500 minutes played on Tuesday evening. She also has 19 ground balls for second on the team and nine caused turnovers.
DEFENSE STEPS UP
In addition to Roa's good play, the defense was a huge reason why the Raiders sit at 3-0 in the league after grinding out a 12-8 win on Saturday. Holy Cross was forced into 22 turnovers and it was the third time this season a team has committed 20 or more against the Raiders and Colgate is 3-0 in those games. Free-position defense came through on Saturday, allowing just two goals in 10 chances for the Crusaders, including a 1-for-7 effort by Holy Cross in the second half.
SCOUTING THE BEARCATS
Binghamton travels north to Hamilton with a 2-8 overall mark and a 0-1 record in the America East Conference. The Bearcats have lost five of their last six games with their lone win coming at Davidson on March 22 in a 14-10 win. In its last game, Binghamton dropped a 15-6 decision to Boston University. The Bearcats are averaging 8.8 goals per game, while they are allowing 11.7 goals.
Lis Zuern is the team leader in points with 30 on 20 goals and 10 assists. She also leads in the assist category, but has struggled in free-position shots, going 4-for-13. The team has also had trouble from eight meters, scoring around a quarter of the time as the Bearcats are 13-for-56. Colgate is 22-for-42 on the year for a 52-percent success rate. Beth Moore has been the goal scorer for this team with 23 on the year and she was also huge on the defensive end with 12 caused turnovers and 18 ground balls. Ali Castiglie has registered 24 points on 18 goals and six assists for third on the team.
In net, Lauren Scott has started all 10 games this year and has a 2-8 record with an 11.76 goals against average. She has been tested all season, facing 268 shots and posting a .443 save percentage with 93 saves.
SERIES HISTORY
This will be the fourth meeting between Colgate and the Bearcats since the teams met for the first time in 2008. They have played each season since then with the Raiders winning the last two times after Binghamton won the series opener by an 12-11 margin on its home field.
