FINAL RESULTS

LEWISBURG, Pa. (2/19/11) -
The Colgate women's swimming and diving team sits atop the Patriot League once again with its third title in the last four years, earning the crown with 862 total points.

Fernando Canales was named the Patriot League Women's Coach of the Year, while Erin McGraw was tabbed as the Female Swimmer of the Meet. Kim Pilka did her part and was rewarded as the top diver with the Female Diver of the Meet honor.

Colgate led throughout the championships and didn't falter on the final day of competition as defending champion Navy finished second with 760 points. Bucknell ended up third with 581.5 points.

The final day started off well for the Raiders as Erin McGraw broke her own Patriot League, PL Championship and Kinney Natatorium records with a 1:58.50 in the 200-yard backstroke. Her previous record was 1:58.67 back in 2009. McGraw finished the week with two new records in her final PL Championships.

Pilka took home both diving titles after a score of 308.05 in the finals after posting a 257.15 in the prelims.

In the first swimming final of the day, Erica Derlath won her third title of the week with a new Colgate record in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 16:24.83. She also broke the Patriot League record with her performance. She eliminated her own Colgate record by a whopping 15 seconds as she posted a 16:39.72 in 2009. Caren Guyett also broke the record and took second at 16:29.34. Melanie Lockard continued to swim well this week with a fourth-place finish at 17:03.72 and Jenna Daly took fifth at 17:05.84. Erika Mortenson contributed to the cause with a ninth-place swim at 17:25.18. The Raiders didn't slack in the first event, even with the lead as Colgate had added 75 points to the total score in the event.

Following the huge first race of the day, McGraw scored a victory in the 200-yard backstroke as she shaved almost two seconds off of her prelim time, which was the record swim mentioned earlier. She finished with a time of 1:56.39. Colgate had five of the eight swimmers in the final. Lia Kunnapas came in second at 1:59.96 and Jenna Jacoby ended up fourth at 2:02.09. Sarah Button and Megan Jex came in sixth and seventh, respectively.

In the 100-yard freestyle, Claire Hunter was the top finisher for the Raiders in third place. She swam it in 51.32 seconds, which was one second behind Navy's Allison Ranzau, who took home the win. Hannah Fitton made the final and came in eighth at 52.24 seconds.

Colgate added to its lead in the 200-yard breaststroke as Emma Santoro place second with a time of 2:14.72, while Maggie White came in seventh with a time of 2:21.35. The Raiders got 29 more points in the 200-yard butterfly with Emily Kelly placing fourth at 2:05.34 and Ryan Marynowski taking home a fifth-place finish with a time of 2:06.09.

The Raiders won the final swimming event of the championships to seal the deal and earn 40 points in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The team of McGraw, Hunter, Santoro and Guyett finished with a NCAA “A” time of 3:23.51. The four missed the Colgate record by just under three seconds.
