Swim & Dive Championship Underway in Annapolis

Raiders’ relay success kicks off Patriot League championship


ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Colgate University men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened competition at the Patriot League Championships on Wednesday evening inside Lejeune Hall, hosted by Navy. 

The opening day featured relay events and men's diving, setting the tone for a competitive four-day championship. Colgate women are tied for sixth with 94 points, matching Boston University's total through the opening day of action. Colgate's men's team is in 10th with 91 points. 

On the women's side, Colgate earned a strong showing in the 200-yard medley relay, finishing eighth overall. The quartet of Allie Phillips, Regan Hau, Audrey Collins, and Heather O'Day touched the wall in 1:43.11, earning valuable early points for the Raiders.

The Colgate women continued to build momentum in the 800-yard freestyle relay, placing fifth with a time of 7:22.88. The relay team of Elizabeth Rainey, MG King, Katie Miller, and Paige Fisher posted a consistent performance against a deep Patriot League field, helping Colgate remain firmly in the middle of the team standings after day one.

On the men's side, Colgate opened the championships in the 200-yard medley relay, finishing 10th with a time of 1:32.34. The relay squad consisted of Zack Berner, Connor O'Neill, Matt Freund, and Jack Lira, gaining valuable championship experience in a fast-paced final.

The Raiders' men closed the evening with the 800-yard freestyle relay, where Colgate placed eighth overall in 6:39.75. The team of Matthew Szypula, David Brophy, Jack Lira, and Michael Granin shattered the program record (6:54.97) to cap the night's swimming events.

Competition resumes Thursday with a full slate of preliminary and final events as Colgate looks to build on its opening-day performances.
