Colgate Tennis Prepares for Patriot League Tournament

HAMILTON, N.Y. (4/22/10) -   The Colgate men's tennis team is prepared to face Lehigh in the first round of action at the Patriot League Tournament this Friday, April 23. The Raiders earned the No. 4 seed after finishing the season 3-2 in the league and 9-7 overall.
 
The tournament will be held this weekend April 23-25 at Bucknell's Varsity Courts in Lewisburg, Pa. The Raiders are scheduled to open the first day of play at 10 a.m. on Friday. In the event of inclement weather the matches will be moved to the West Branch Tennis Club in Williamsport, Pa. with Colgate playing at 2 p.m.
 
Army claimed the No. 1 seed in this year's tournament, its the first time since 2006, with a league record of 5-1. The Black Knights earn a bye through to the semifinal round where they will face the winner of Colgate/Lehigh match-up. The pre-season favorite, Navy, earned the No. 2 seed with a 4-1 record. Like Colgate, Bucknell finished the regular season with a 3-2 league record but earned the No. 3 seed due to its regular season win against the Raiders back on April 3.
 
Lehigh earned the No. 5 seed with a 2-4 record while the Leopards are the No. 6 squad with a 1-5 league record. Holy Cross rounds out the tournament as the No. 7 seed.
 
The Raiders edged out Lehigh 4-3 during their regular season meeting back on April 11. Colgate claimed first and third doubles to earn the opening point and earned wins at second, third and fourth singles for the win.

Quarterfinal Match #1: No. 4 Colgate vs. No. 5 Lehigh, 10 a.m.
Quarterfinal Match #2: No. 3 Bucknell vs. No. 6 Lafayette, 1 p.m.
Quarterfinal Match #3: No. 2 Navy vs. No. 7 Holy Cross, 4 p.m.
 
Saturday, April 24
Semifinal Match #1: No. 1 Army vs. Colgate/Lehigh winner, 10 a.m.
Semifinal Match #2: Bucknell/Lafayette winner vs. Navy/Holy Cross winner, 2 p.m.
 
Sunday, April 25
Championship Match, 12 p.m.
