BETHLEHEM, Pa. (4/11/10) - The Colgate men's tennis team squeezed out a 4-3 victory against Lehigh on Saturday afternoon in Bethlehem, Pa. The Raiders improve to 9-7 overall and 3-2 in the Patriot League while the Mountain Hawks fall to 8-10 overall and 1-3 in the league.
The Raiders claimed victories at both the first and third doubles positions to earn the doubles point. Senior duo
John Nogueras (Parkland, Fla.) and
Michael Yassky (New York, N.Y.) defeated Troy List and Collin Laffey, 8-4, in the No. 1 position while freshman partners
Alec Goldstein (Bethesda, Md.) and
Harry Jewett (Centennial, Color.) downed Matt Savran and Ryan Krueger, 8-6, at third doubles.
In singles action, Colgate earned wins at the second, third and fourth positions to earn the 4-3 win. Nogueras outlasted Laffey, 6-7, 6-3, 6-3, in the No. 2 position while junior
Phil Bernasek (Fairfield, Conn.) defeated Leland Richardson, 6-4, 7-6 at third singles. Goldstein defeated Savran in three sets, 7-6, 3-6, 6-4 at fourth singles.
The Raiders face Marist on Sunday afternoon before heading to Lewisburg, Pa. for the Patriot League Tournament April 23-25.
