Raiders move to 2-1 in Patriot League play with win over Leopards

Box Score EASTON, Pa. - The Colgate men's tennis team took down Lafayette on Saturday night. The wins came from the doubles point, then singles triumphs from first-year Wittman Bulger, senior captain Aidan Lee, and first-year Tim Vargas

"Very nice win for the boys today," said Head Coach Bobby Pennington. "That was a very much-needed league victory to bring us to 2-1 overall in the league. We took the doubles point with wins from 2 and 3, then we won at 2, 3, and 4 singles to clinch the match. Lafayette put up a good fight but ultimately, I thought we were tougher in the big moments and a little stronger and more seasoned. Tomorrow is an absolutely gigantic match with Lehigh. We're gonna give everything we have and empty the tank."

The Raiders came out strong in the doubles point, with wins at line two and three. Lee and Bulger put the squad in front with a 6-3 win at line three, followed by junior Parker McGowan and Vargas at line two, who won 6-3 as well. Senior captain Aidan Chung and sophomore Tim Viding were in a tiebreaker at line one when the point was clinched.

Colgate added onto their lead very quickly, with wins from Bulger and Lee, both in under an hour. Bulger won 6-1, 6-3 at line three, and Lee won 6-3, 6-2 at line two. Sophomore Lochlan Seth fell 2-6, 3-6 at line one for the Leopards to get their first point, but Vargas was able to triumph 6-0, 3-6, 6-2 at line four to clinch the matchup. Chung was up 2-0 in the third when the point was clinched.

The Raiders return to action on Sunday, where they will take on Lehigh at 1 p.m. in Bethlehem.
