Raider Women Blanked by Army

WEST POINT, N.Y. (3/27/10) -  The Colgate women's tennis team suffered its first league loss on Saturday, March 27 when they fell to Army, 7-0, in West Point, N.Y. The Raiders are now 5-5 overall and 0-1 in Patriot League play while the Black Knights improve to 17-6 overall and 4-0 in the league. 
 
The Raiders fought hard in doubles play, as partners Samantha Inacker (Lake Forest, Ill.) and Stephanie Bender (Amityville, N.Y.) nearly upset Army's Erin Colton and Annie Hang at second doubles, eventually falling 8-7 (1). Sophomore Stephanie Brown (Mendham, N.J.) and freshman Asia Lamar (Olympia Heights, Ill.) dropped their third doubles match to Michael Tollerton and Robie Verano, 8-5. Seniors Elise DeRose (Williamsville, N.Y.) and Cameron Williams (Winnetka, Ill.) fell to Annie Houghton and Kristin Beehler, 8-1, at the No. 1 position.  
 
In singles action DeRose fell to Houghton at the top spot, 6-4, 6-0, while Inacker dropped her second singles match, 6-1, 6-3, to Beehler. Williams fell to Jessica Ahn at third singles, 6-1, 6-2, and Brown dropped the No. 4 match against Hang, 6-0, 6-4. Freshmen Merideth Rock (Kansas City, Mo.) and Lamar were blanked at the fifth and sixth singles positions, respectively.
