HAMILTON, N.Y. (10/22/10) – The Colgate women's ice hockey team (2-3) suffered its second shut out of the season when it fell to Wayne State 4-0, Friday night at Starr Rink. Senior goaltender
Lisa Plenderleith (Ajax, Ont.) had 24 saves for the Raiders.
Wayne State (3-4-0) lit the lamp with 4:31 remaining in the first period when Julie Hebert beat Plenderleith to give the Warriors the 1-0 lead in the first intermission. Plenderleith made 10 saves in the period.
In the second period, Colgate had majority of the shots on net, outshooting Wayne State 15-7. However, it was Lauren Ragen who was able to capitalize during power play at the 2:02 mark to give Wayne State a two goal lead.
The Warriors then went on to score two more power-play goals in the third period, first at the 8:35 mark by Alyssa Baldin and then again at 16:12 by Gina Buquet, to seal the win in the first game of a two-game set.
Plenderleith finished with 24 saves for Colgate, while Delayne Brian recorded 31 for the Warriors. Wayne State finished 3-for-8 on the power play, while the Raiders went 0-for-5.
Colgate will look to return the favor in the second game against the Warriors on Saturday, Oct. 23 at 2 p.m. at Starr Rink.
