HANOVER, N.H. - Despite outshooting Dartmouth 36-20, the Raiders fell 4-2 at Thompson Arena on Friday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Colgate opened the first period strongly, capitalizing on an early power play opportunity. Sara Stewart scored the first goal of the game on the power play at 17:55, assisted by Madeline Palumbo and Taylor Senecal, putting Colgate ahead 1-0.
Dartmouth responded later in the period with a power play goal by Cally Dixon at 09:15, leveling the score. Despite several blocked shots and missed attempts from both sides, the period concluded evenly with a 1-1 stalemate.
As the period progressed, Dartmouth's Shae Messner scored at 11:29 with an even-strength goal, assisted by Bridget Pringle and Miami Jones, which gave the Big Green a 2-1 lead. Colgate continued to apply pressure throughout the period with numerous shots, but Dartmouth's defense, particularly their netminder Michaela Hesová, managed to keep them from scoring.
The period closed with Colgate trailing 2-1, maintaining a tight contest as they pushed to even the score but were unable to break through Dartmouth's defense before the end of the frame.
The third period began with Dartmouth extending their lead as Sydney Putrah scored at 14:51, assisted by Sophia Chard. Colgate quickly responded when Elyssa Biederman found the back of the net at 13:20, with helpers from Emma Pais and Avery Pickering, reducing the deficit to one goal.
Despite several offensive efforts and a power-play opportunity, Colgate struggled to capitalize on their chances, with multiple shots blocked or saved by the Big Green's keeper, Michaela Hesová. As the period progressed, Colgate pulled their goalie for an extra attacker, but Dartmouth secured the victory with an empty-net goal by Cally Dixon at 00:16. The game concluded with the Big Green leading 4-2.
