Women's Hockey Picks Up Point Against Yale

Pais scores ninth of the season

HAMILTON - The Raiders earned a point against Yale in a 5-4 overtime loss on Saturday afternoon at Class of 1965 Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Early in the opening frame a power-play opportunity arose when Sage Smith of the Bulldogs was penalized for hooking, and Colgate capitalized with Alexia Aubin scoring the first goal, assisted by Casey Borgiel and Biederman.

Colgate quickly extended their lead with a goal from Biederman at even strength, assisted by Dorothy Copetti and Ava Wood, bringing the score to 2-0. The team continued to apply pressure, and Alexis Petford added a third goal, assisted by Sara Stewart and Taylor Senecal. Colgate closed the first period with a 3-0 lead, effectively keeping the Bulldogs at bay while maintaining control of the game's pace.

Despite having a power play opportunity early on, Colgate conceded a short-handed goal to the Bulldogs' Naomi Boucher, which temporarily reduced their lead to one goal.

Throughout the period, Colgate maintained offensive pressure with multiple shot attempts, but the Bulldogs managed to net a second goal by Mariya Rauf. However, Colgate responded swiftly as Emma Pais scored at even strength with an assist from Aubin, restoring Colgate's lead to 4-2.

As the period concluded, Colgate sustained their two-goal advantage, keeping the Bulldogs at bay and entering the final period with the upper hand.

The Bulldogs equalized early in the third period with a goal from Cami Bell at 14:45, despite several saves from Farah Walker for Colgate. Colgate fought back with shots from Pais and Stewart, though Stewart's attempt hit the pipe, maintaining the tense atmosphere.

The Bulldogs continued to press and tied the game again with Molly Boyle scoring at 11:30. Colgate responded with multiple offensive pushes, including shots from Madeline Palumbo, who hit the pipe, and Senecal, but Anna Phillips of the Bulldogs held firm in goal.

The period concluded with Colgate unable to break the deadlock, despite persistent offensive efforts. The game ended in a 4-4 tie, with both teams unable to gain an advantage in the final minutes.

Just 44 seconds into the period, the Bulldogs' Naomi Boucher scored the game-winning goal with an even-strength shot, assisted by Boyle. This sudden-death goal concluded the overtime, with the Bulldogs securing a 5-4 victory.
