BOSTON, Mass. (2/7/09) -   The Colgate men's tennis team fell at Boston College, 6-1, this afternoon.  The Raiders drop to 1-3 overall, while the Eagles improve to 3-0 on the season.  

“Despite the final score, we were points away from losing 4-3 to one of the top teams in the east today,” stated head coach Bobby Pennington.  “Also it was obvious how deep our team is as we battled BC for the 4,5 and 6 spots.”

In singles action, Ruslan Goussiantnikov (Needham, Mass.) defeated Brendon Wong, 6-4, 6-4 at fifth singles, for the Raiders lone win of the day.  Senior Martin MacIntyre (Arlington, Va.) fell at first singles, 6-2, 6-3 to Thomas Nolan, while Phil Bernasek (Fairfield, Conn.) dropped the second singles spot to Erik Kreutzer, 6-3, 6-2.  John Nogueras (Parkland, Fla.) fell at the No. 3 position, 6-0, 6-0, to Akash Muppidi. 

Michael Yassky (New York, N.Y.) and Sean Spellberg (Naples, Fla.) took the fourth and sixth singles matches to three sets.  Yassky fell at fourth singles, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 to Alex Rastorgouev, while Spellberg lost the sixth singles match, 3-6, 6-4, 10-6, to Michael Vann.

The pair of MacIntyre and Nogueras dropped the No. 1 doubles match, 8-4, to Noal and Kreutzer.  Partners Bernasek and Goussiantnikov fell to Adam Davidson and Brian Garber, 8-2, at second doubles, while Yassky and Jamie Pellechi (Pound Ridge, N.Y.) dropped the third doubles match, 8-4, to Muppidi and Sam Wagner.

Colgate will take on the men of Boston University tomorrow morning, Feb. 8 at 10 a.m.
