HAMILTON, N.Y. (1/23/09) -   Regional opponent Syracuse University handed the Colgate University women's tennis team its first loss of the season, 7-0 on Friday, January, 23.

The Raiders started off doubles competition with Elise DeRose (Williamsville, N.Y.) and Alexandra Erickson (Minnetonka, Minn.) taking on Emily Harman and Christina Tan at No. 1 doubles.  The pair of Harman and Tan defeated DeRose and Erickson, 8-2.  Senior Erin Fenn (Evanston, Ill.) and partner Cameron Thaney (Rochestor, N.Y.) fell to Ashley Spicer and Chelsea Jones 8-2, at No. 2 doubles, while Cameron Williams (Winnetka, Ill.) and Stephanie Brown (Mendham, N.J.) took Alessondra Parra and Jacquelynn Tang to a tie-breaker.  Williams and Brown were defeated 8-7 (7-3). 

In singles action, Harman defeated DeRose 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 1 spot, while Tan dropped Erickson 6-3, 6-3.  At the No. 3 slot, Parra took out Fenn 6-3, 6-2 and Jones defeated Jackie Stimmel (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) 6-1, 6-2 in No. 5 action.  Williams was down 2-0 to Simone Kalhorn before having to retire before the third game.  Brown fell in the No. 6 spot 8-0 to Spicer. 

Colgate is now 0-1 on the season while Syracuse starts off 1-0.  The Raiders will be back in action tomorrow when they travel to play Fairfield at 7:30 p.m.
