Raiders pick up crucial 5-2 league win over Greyhounds

BALTIMORE, Md. – The Colgate women's tennis team defeated Loyola 5-2 on Saturday afternoon, in a match where senior captain Amelia Galin picked up her 50th career singles win. The Raiders also won the doubles point, junior Sophia Montero's singles at line two, sophomore Rebecca Hess at line three, and senior captain Sasha Herman at line five.

"A massive road win today and an outstanding display of energy and focus from this group right from the start," said Head Coach Damien Prohaska. "When we hold ourselves to our standard of compete level and energy, we can expect good results, and today we were rewarded. We were back to our usual level in doubles, after dropping a tough doubles point to Bucknell the previous weekend. In singles, we came out hungry and had great starts all around. Great momentum heading into Navy, but we'll savor this win for now."

The Raiders started off strong in the doubles, as they won lines two and three to take the point. Herman and junior Carina Cristobal teamed up to win 6-2 at line two, then Hess and junior Avery Isaac won 6-3 at line three to clinch the point.

Herman added onto the Raiders lead shortly after the singles began, picking up a 6-1, 7-6(5) win at line five. However, the Greyhounds were able to bounce back with a 6-4, 6-3 win over first-year Caroline Brown at line six, as well as a 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 victory over sophomore Anya Kunar at line four. It would be all Raiders from there, as lines one through three would all win to seal the deal. Galin won 6-1, 4-6, 6-1, Montero won 6-4, 7-6(5), and Hess won 7-6(5), 6-1.

The Raiders return to action on Sunday, where they will take on Navy in Annapolis at 11 a.m.
