Raiders Fall in Non-Conference Finale

DeSimone logs five points

HAMILTON - The Raiders clawed back from a seven-goal halftime deficit but were unable to complete the comeback as they fell 16-13 to UAlbany at Andy Kerr Stadium on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Aubrey McMahon started the game with an early goal at 13:23, unassisted, but the Great Danes' Paisley Cook responded with her own unassisted goal a minute later.

UAlbany continued to net two more goals, followed by McMahon netting her second unassisted goal at 3:39. With six minutes left in the quarter, UAlbany managed to extend their lead with three goals from Raven Marsell and one from Cook. The quarter was closed with the Great Danes leading 7-2.

The second quarter was a back-and-forth scoring battle between the two teams, but despite Colgate's efforts, UAlbany continued to lead the first half with a score of 12-5. The Raiders' performance was highlighted by three unassisted goals from Katie Walsh, Lucy Lederman, and Gracie DeSimone.

The third quarter was scoreless for both teams throughout the first eight minutes. At 6:03, senior Ella Bishara put one in the back of the net from an assist by Grace DeSimone. Two minutes later, Riley Forthofer found herself with the ball, leading to her assist to Jaedyn Frink's goal.

Colgate stayed determined and logged in two unassisted, free position goals in the final minute of the quarter. Lucy Lederman secured her goal first with 51.9 to go, followed by DeSimone at 38.8. Goalkeeper Maddie Stevens saved some crucial shots, and helped minimize UAlbany's lead to only five goals. The quarter ended 13-8 in favor of the Great Danes.

The Raiders found their momentum in the fourth quarter after Amelia Reinholt's unassisted goal at 11:54. Josie Cavallo's efforts in draw controls did not go unnoticed, and added to Colgate's performance. The team's continued to lessen the gap as Grace DeSimone earned two of her own goals back-to-back. The first was assisted by Reinholt at 11:14, and Sarah Marcovici at 10:19.

The Great Danes ended their scoring drought in the fourth at 9:15 left. The first came from Marsell, assisted by Cook. Mya Carroll continued to capitalize on a free position shot, finding the back of the net at 8:22. The third unanswered goal came from Amanda Williamson, assisted by Marsell.

Aubrey McMahon ended the other team's efforts by scoring two unassisted goals, closing the margin to a three goal game. The Raiders fought hard in the fourth, but the game ended with a final score of Great Danes with 16, and Colgate 13.
