Women's Lacrosse Falls to Penn State

McMahon nets third hat trick of the season

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Colgate scored the opening goal but was unable to contain the Penn State offense as they fell 20-8 to the Nittany Lions at Holuba Hall on Wednesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The game opened with Colgate's Amelia Reinholt scoring the first goal of the season at 14:17, giving Colgate an early lead. Despite this promising start, Penn State quickly responded with a goal from Delaney Radin at 13:39, followed by a series of goals that shifted momentum. Lucy Lederman managed to find the net again for Colgate at 4:02, but the Nittany Lions continued to extend their lead. The first quarter concluded with Penn State leading 8-2.

Colgate experienced a challenging second quarter as the Nittany Lions scored multiple times, widening their lead. Early on, the Nittany Lions found the net with a goal from Anna Salerno, followed by scores from Kelly Mackinney, Rocquette Allen, Maddie Greco, and Hannah Hoyt. Despite difficulties, Colgate managed to break through late in the quarter with a player-up goal by Aubrey McMahon, assisted by Sarah Marcovici, at the 55-second mark. The quarter ended with the Nittany Lions leading 13-3.

Colgate battled through the third quarter, with Lederman scoring a goal at 10:06 to break through the Nittany Lions' defense. Later in the quarter, McMahon capitalized on a player-up situation, netting a goal assisted by Katie Walsh at 3:15, keeping Colgate competitive against the home team. Despite these efforts, the quarter ended with a score of 15-5 in favor of the Nittany Lions.

Colgate began the fourth quarter with a swift goal by Charley Drouin at 14:34, assisted by Olivia McDonald, marking Drouin's first of the season. Despite this early success, the Nittany Lions responded with a series of goals, capitalizing on Colgate's penalties to extend their lead. After a timeout, Colgate regrouped with goals from McMahon and Grace Delnegro, narrowing the deficit. However, the effort was insufficient to close the gap, as the game concluded with a final score of the Nittany Lions 20, Colgate 8.
