Colgate returns to winning ways with 4-0 win over Purple Eagles

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 HAMILTON - Colgate went 1-1 over the weekend, earning a strong 4-0 win over Niagara in its home opener. The Colgate men's tennis team fell 4-2 to Siena on Saturday. The Raiders were able to take the doubles point with wins from senior captain Aidan Chung and sophomore Tim Viding at line one, and the first-year duo of Tim Vargas and Witt Bulger at line two. However, the Saints would bounce back in singles, as only junior Jerome Falcon was able to pick up a singles win for the Raiders. Sophomore Lochlan Seth was up a break in the third set when play was called.

The team bounced back for their home opener on Sunday, taking down Niagara 4-0 in a sweep. The Raiders won the doubles point and were able to take home three wins in straight sets to pick up a resounding win.

COACH PENNINGTON'S COMMENTS
"Overall, a very solid, productive weekend for the boys," said head coach Bobby Pennington. "I'm disappointed we didn't win both matches as we lost a heartbreaker to Siena where we let up after winning the doubles point. However, we bounced back strong against Niagara with a total team effort, winning the doubles point and then in order, Parker Chung and Jerome clinching the singles to get us back to it even on the season.. We are within a couple of little points that we really should and could be 4-0. We have a huge weekend approaching against Wagner and Villanova that we need to fine tune some things for."

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Raiders quickly jumped out to a lead in doubles, as senior captain John Fazli and first-year Adam Fink made their season debuts with a bang, winning 6-0 at line three. The first-year duo of Witt Bulger and Tim Vargas clinched the point with a 6-2 win at line two.

Colgate continued their winning ways in singles, as junior Parker McGowan picked up a quick 6-1, 6-2 win at line six. Senior captain Aidan Chung followed shortly with a 6-3, 6-1 win at line five, and then junior Jerome Falcon clinched the match 6-0, 7-5 at line three. Senior captain Aidan Lee was up 7-5, 3-3 when play was called.
