GENEVA, N.Y. – In a low-scoring game, Andrew Lehrman's career-high 21 saves helped Colgate prevail 7-6 over Hobart, earning its first win of the 2025-26 season.
Lehrman came up big in each quarter, especially in the third quarter, recording seven saves. The sophomore also caused turnovers while protecting the net.
A turnover proved decisive late in the game, as sophomore Freddy Fowler capitalized on a Statesmen defensive error, collecting a ground ball off the goalkeeper to score the game-winning goal.
Casey Quinson delivered an all-around performance, totaling a pair of goals, causing three turnovers and collecting six ground balls. Senior captain Hunter Drouin added a pair of assists and two ground balls.
COACH KARWECK'S COMMENTS
"First, let me recognize that this game honored the life and memory of Coach Liam Gleason. Both teams played hard, played tough, and represented the legacy Coach Gleason well today. My hat is off to Coach Brundage, as he is building a great squad over there in Geneva.
"As for our team, I'm so proud of this win. Our guys are just gritty.
"On a day where our shots were not dropping as they have been, the difference in the game was our commitment to defense. It was a truly total team defensive effort, including our ride, our transition defense, and certainly our 6v6 defense.
"Lehrman was terrific in the goal today, but Andrew will tell you, it was the 9 guys in front of him today that allowed him to gobble up a career save kind of day.
"We are looking forward to getting on the road again in a few days to battle an excellent Harvard team."
