BETHLEHEM Pa. – Colgate men's lacrosse senior attackman Hunter Drouin capped off a successful collegiate career with the Raiders and has earned the Patriot League Award of Sportsmanship.
Drouin is the first men's lacrosse player in Colgate history to be a recipient of the Sportsmanship Award. He is one of four Colgate male athletes to be selected, the other three all being men's basketball players, while being the eighth student-athlete to be recognized in the Raiders' history.
"It's an honor to win the sportsmanship award," said Drouin. "Our program emphasizes not only being great athletes, but becoming great men as well. We emphasize a culture that helps create good humans, who appreciate their opportunities. I am extremely grateful to have been chosen. This award is a reflection of the program we have built at Colgate. Also, this award speaks to the type of Coach that Matt Karweck is. He truly does emphasize the importance of respecting everyone, including teachers, parents, and workers. His mentorship has led to me receiving this award."
The Patriot League has established this Sportsmanship Award to recognize and honor those who demonstrate the values of respect and integrity through a specific action ideally directed towards an opponent. Nominees must have consistently demonstrated the values of respect and integrity in their daily participation in intercollegiate athletics.
"I try to hold myself to a high standard in all aspects of life," Drouin said. "I think it starts from how I was raised. My parents always emphasized that being a good person will take me further in life than being a good athlete. While I hope to be remembered at Colgate for athletic accomplishments, I also want to be remembered for caring off the field as well."
He has demonstrated resilience throughout his life as a pediatric cancer survivor. In collaboration with the men's lacrosse program, Drouin has been an advocate for LaCROSSe Out Cancer. Over the past 3 years, the team has raised more than $70,000 for the organization, including $32,948 this past year. He has consistently supported the organization's mission and now serves as a LaCROSSe Out Cancer committee member, continuing his commitment to giving back.
On the national stage, Drouin earned All-America honorable mention recognition from Inside Lacrosse, the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association and USA Lacrosse in both 2024 and 2025, while also receiving honorable mention honors from Nike Lacrosse Media in 2025 and 2026. Prior to his senior season, he was named a USILA Preseason Third Team All-American, earned preseason All-America honorable mention recognition from USA Lacrosse and Inside Lacrosse, and was selected to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List. He also earned a spot on the USILA Division I National Team of the Week during the 2026 season.
"I am honored to see Hunter receive the Patriot League Sportsmanship Award," said head coach Matt Karweck. "It is incredibly humbling for our program and Colgate, because the Patriot League represents the true meaning of student-athlete. These athletes are not only committed to their academics, but they are also committed to the respect, the behavior, and the integrity of competition. I am so proud that Hunter will enter the history books as the first Colgate men's lacrosse player to receive this award, as he is truly the epitome of sportsmanship. He has led the way for us as a 2x captain, one of the greatest players to ever play here, and certainly one of the best teammates as well."
The Derry, N.H. native capped off a stellar career at Colgate having appeared in 58 games with 53 starts, totaling 105 goals, 53 assists and 158 points while adding 17 man-up goals, two game-winning goals, 89 ground balls, 208 shots on goal and 12 caused turnovers.
"My main piece of advice that I would leave for the program, school and league is to try and connect with the widest variety of people you can," Drouin said. "Go up to someone new, make friends with a staff worker in the dining hall, check in on your teammates, and overall be present. There are also a lot of little acts of kindness that you may think go unnoticed, but have an impact. That can be staying an extra minute at a coffee shop and chatting with the workers or cleaning up the field after you use it. In our men's lacrosse program, Coach Karweck emphasizes leaving places better than we found them, whether it be a locker room or cleaning up a park."
