BOSTON, Mass. – Colgate's offense was led by
Freddy Fowler, who recorded a hat trick, but the Raiders fell to No. 14 Harvard, 17–8, in a non-conference matchup at Jordan Field.
COACH KARWECK'S COMMENTS
"Simply put, this was not our best performance. That's on me. It's my job to get our guys ready to play, and that did not happen well enough today. That won't be the case again.
"Hats off to Harvard and their staff. That's a very good and disciplined Harvard team, and they executed at a high level today.
"For us, now, we have a well needed off weekend coming up. We need to rest our bodies, heal up, reflect, and take the lessons of our first 4 games into our league play.
"In 10 days, we have a very good Loyola team coming to town for our first home game of the year, and our guys will be ready."
HOW IT HAPPENED
Colgate opened the scoring with a goal from Hunter Drouin at the 14:26 mark, taking an early 1-0 lead. However, Harvard responded with five unanswered goals to build a 5-1 cushion by the end of the first quarter.
Fowler scored for the Raiders just 15 seconds into the second quarter, and Sam Erickson added the team's third goal off a Crimson turnover. Despite those efforts, the Raiders struggled to consistently find the back of the net.
Harvard continued its offensive surge in the second quarter, outscoring Colgate 6-2. The Crimson's efficient finishing allowed them to extend their lead to 9-3 heading into halftime.
For the third consecutive quarter, Colgate opened the scoring, this time with a man-up goal from Casey Quinson. Harvard quickly answered with three goals in a three-minute span, including one on the man advantage.
Fowler later added another goal, assisted by Fischer Burke. Despite the Raiders' efforts, the Crimson maintained control and closed the quarter with a commanding 14-5 lead.
In the fourth quarter, both teams scored three goals apiece. Harvard struck first, but Colgate's Drouin responded with an unassisted goal.
Colgate's offensive push continued as Wylie Warchol scored off an assist from John Carrabine, and Fowler added his third goal of the game, assisted by Andy Croddick.
Harvard sealed the win with a goal in the final minute, securing a 17-8 victory.
