Late Chippewa goal dooms Raiders

Morgan Willis notched her fifth goal of the season

HAMILTON, N.Y. — In the final minutes, Central Michigan University edged out Colgate with a 2-1 victory, capitalizing on a fourth-quarter goal to secure the win.

COACH CORNELL-DEANGELIS' COMMENTS
"It was a tough loss today, we created a lot of attacking opportunities. I was happy to see our success in forcing turnovers on our press and the team worked to make sure they connected passes. However, we were not steady in the 4th quarter and gave CMU too many penalty corners and scoring opportunities. We need to continue working on stopping the play sooner outside the circle and we will move forward quickly to the next game. We have more work to do this weekend."

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Colgate executed three penalty corners during the quarter, led by Lauren Widdowson with two attempts.
  • Central Michigan's Jenna Billig recorded three saves, stopping shots from Ahria Dhillon and Grace Schmelzinger.
  • Colgate took the lead in the 18th minute with a goal by Morgan Willis, assisted by Dani Palmer, marking Willis's first goal of the game.
  • Central Michigan equalized in the 20th minute when Hailey Bainer scored from a penalty corner, assisted by Amelia Lane.
  • Colgate's Claire van Kempen made crucial saves against shots by the Chippewas to maintain a tied score in the quarter.
  • Colgate's defense held firm, successfully defending against two penalty corners by Central Michigan, maintaining the scoreline, 1–1.
