Men’s Tennis Drops Matchup with Navy

Vlassis picks up lone single win for Raiders

Box Score SYRACUSE, N.Y.-- Colgate fell to Navy Sunday afternoon, 6-1, after the Midshipmen took the doubles point and five of six singles matches. The loss moves the Raiders to 5-4 on the season.

"Tough one today against a quality opponent," said assistant coach Jake Sandler. "We were within a few points of taking the doubles point and competed well at the top of the lineup. Major shout out to senior captain Benito on winning both matches at first doubles and first singles. A lot of positives to take away heading into a big weekend with Le Moyne and Quinnipiac."

Action started with doubles, where the Raiders drew first blood with a 7-5 victory at line one courtesy of senior captains Benito Vlassis and Josh Israel. However, the Mids quickly responded with a 6-3 victory at line three. Navy clinched the doubles point with a 7-5 win over first-year Tim Viding and junior Aidan Chung.

Singles action followed, where Navy started off strong taking all six first sets. Colgate fell at lines two through six in straight sets, with the closest result being Israel at line two, who lost 7-5, 7-5. The Raider's lone singles point of the match came from Vlassis, who dropped the first set 4-6, then rebounded to win 6-4, (14-12) after saving three match points.

The Raiders return to action on Saturday, March 8, where they will take on Le Moyne at 4 p.m. at Drumlins.
