Box Score HAMILTON — Colgate men's tennis defeated Florida National 7-0 on Monday afternoon to open their spring break trip with a win. The Raiders took a tight doubles point and then won all 12 singles sets to seal the victory.
"Men definitely had an interesting rep today," said Head Coach
Bobby Pennington. "We lost at three dubs, which is extremely rare and won at two dubs, leaving the entire doubles point up to one's. Neato and Josh were down multiple match points and came back to clinch the point. This loosened us up in singles as we won all twelve sets. The boys did a great job adjusting to the heat and wind. Next up is the most talented team on our schedule in Miami tomorrow on their campus."
Play began with doubles, where first-year
Tim Viding and junior
Aidan Chung opened up the action with a 6-2 victory at line two. The Raiders fell at line three doubles, but the senior captain duo of
Josh Israel and
Benito Vlassis sealed the doubles point with a 7-6 (7-2) victory at line one doubles.
Colgate started singles strong, as multiple Raiders got off the court in under an hour, with sophomore
Jerome Falcon winning 6-3, 6-0 at line six, and junior
Aidan Lee winning 6-1, 6-1 at line two. Vlassis clinched the matchup with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph at line one. Israel tacked on another point for the Raiders with a 6-3, 6-1 win at line three. The Raiders completed the sweep with first-year
Lochlan Seth winning 6-4, 6-4 at line four, and senior captain
Ben Graham winning 6-3, 7-5 at line five.
The Raiders return to action Tuesday afternoon, taking on #34-ranked Miami at noon.
