HAMILTON – Colgate University Head Women's Hockey Coach
Greg Fargo has announced the hiring of new assistant coach
Breanne Wilson-Bennett.
Wilson-Bennett will trade her skates for a clipboard after spending four years on the ice as a Colgate student-athlete from 2014-2018. During her time at Colgate, she played a pivotal part in the program's first-ever appearances in the NCAA Championship and Frozen Four, as well as the historic first ECAC title. She also captained the 2017-18 squad during her senior year, earning the program's first appearance in the NCAA Championship game.
"With Breanne's return to Colgate as assistant coach, it is more than a homecoming; it's a brand new chapter for our program," Fargo said. "As a former Raider student-athlete, Breanne embodies the spirit, drive, and excellence that we love about our players we get to coach. She played a key role in transforming our program as a player and now, in her new role, she'll be able to continue to do so. Breanne's unique perspective as an alumna, coupled with her coaching experience, will surely inspire our current and future players to reach new heights."
After her collegiate career, Wilson-Bennett played for MODO, a professional hockey club in Sweden's SDHL, and won an Isobel Cup Championship with Toronto Six in the PHF this past season.
Wilson-Bennett has also spent time coaching, serving one year as an assistant coach with the women's ice hockey program at Union College and taking on coaching duties with the Durham West and Markham youth hockey organizations. She has also dedicated the last four years to her role as the Director of Player Development at HyperFit in Toronto.
"I am so excited to be coming home," Wilson-Bennett said, "My time at Colgate as a student-athlete was the experience of a lifetime. I enjoyed every moment and I feel so privileged to be coming back as an assistant coach. I am eager to learn from coach Fargo and his amazing staff and to work with and teach such a talented group of young athletes. This program has had so much success and I cannot wait to contribute to that in my own way."
A native of Markham, Ontario, Wilson-Bennett graduated from Colgate in 2018 with a bachelor's degree in educational studies and history.
