HAMILTON — St. John's scored two first-half goals and one in the second in a 3-0 win over Colgate Sunday afternoon at Beyer-Small '76 Field.
The Red Storm found the back of the net early to take the lead. Frederique St.-Jean scored off a pass from Athina Sofroniou, putting St. John's up 1-0 in the third minute.
Nicole Gordon doubled the Red Storm's lead in the 27th minute when she put one in off a pass from Lauryn Tran.
The Raiders had a chance early in the game when
Sara Anelli fired a shot in the 6th minute that got saved by the goalie.
Colgate had three corner kicks in the first half that they could not convert on.
In the 33rd minute,
Julia Lombardo had a good look at goal, but her shot got blocked. Three minutes later,
Addie Brislen put a shot over the goal.
St. John's made it a three-goal game six minutes into the second half when Tran played a cross to Jessica Garziano, who finished off a one-timer.
Paige Foa had a near chance in the 56th minute when she released a shot that got stopped by the goalie.
Nikki DiCaprio also had a shot that got saved in the 65th minute.
The Raiders' lone corner kick in the second half came in the 86th minute. Off the corner,
Anna Keeling rifled a shot from distance that forced the goalkeeper to make a diving save to her left.
Colgate finished with nine shots in the game, four of which were on target.
