Women's Rowing Kick Off Spring Season

Raiders compete in five races this spring

HAMILTON – The Colgate women's rowing team kicks off its spring season in Ithaca, N.Y. with a matchup against Cornell Saturday.

After its recent scrimmage against Villanova and Lehigh last weekend in Allentown, Pa., Colgate is prepared to take on multiple strong opponents, starting the season against its "Route 13" rival Cornell. The Raiders continue their season with the Murphy Cup Regatta on April 8, followed by the Colgate Regatta on April 22 and Women's Eastern Sprints on April 30, before finishing the season with the Patriot League Championships on May 12.

Colgate returns to the water after having a strong fall season, where the 1v8 boat accomplished its best finish since 2005 in the Head of the Charles held in Boston.

The Raiders also captured a medal from the 1v8+ boat in the Head of the Genesee Regatta on Oct. 8. The remaining two boats had strong showings and helped Colgate succeed over Canisius and Flower City. The 2v8+ boat placed third in the open event and the 1v4+ boat took first place in collegiate crews and second in open events.

The Raiders are led by Head Coach Jessica Deitrick, who was awarded with a recent contract extension through 2025. Since joining Colgate in 2019, she has almost doubled the size of the roster and only hopes to continue the growth of the sport and the development of her student-athletes.

"I'm looking forward to our spring racing season," Deitrick said. "The team has worked diligently this fall and winter, we have set challenging goals and are aiming to accomplish as many of them as possible! We have created an exciting racing schedule that we believe will prepare us best for the Patriot League Championships in May."
