Six Crews Medal at Head of the Fish

Colgate women’s rowing closed out its fall season

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. —  The Colgate women's rowing team closed out its fall season in Saratoga Springs on Saturday. The Raiders launched eight crews on Fish Creek, with over ten athletes racing twice throughout the day, as the team captured six top-place finishes. 

COACH LISTER'S COMMENTS
"Great racing from all boats at the Head of the Fish. Our results reflected our investment in our training as well as the team's competitive spirit. 5 boats medaled which is really hard to do with the level of competition at this event. We have a scrimmage with Marist and Vassar next week in a sprint style format similar to spring racing."

HOW IT HAPPENED
First-year Kate Lawrence and sophomore Harper Hoffman started off the day strong for the Raiders with a third-place finish out of 11 entries in the 2x event, crossing the line in 14:04.445.

The crew in the collegiate eight event (1V8+) continued Lawrence and Hoffman's result, also placing third out of 17 crews with a time of 11:43.009. The Raiders, coxed by senior Katherine Metcalf, beat out Patriot League team MIT by four seconds (11:47.388). Colgate's 2V8+ found itself in sixth place, finishing with a time of 12:40.455.

The Raiders in the frosh/novice four put Colgate back on the podium and took second place with a time of 14:20.104.

With three entries in the collegiate four event, Colgate took third, ninth, and 24th. The A four, coxed by Katherine Metcalf, earned a third place finish out of 41 crews, finishing with a time of 12:54.964. Victoria Reale coxed the B four to a ninth place finish, clocking in at 13:18.477. Colgate's C four crossed the line at 14:28.667.

To close out the day, the crew in the frosh/novice eight posted a time of 12:43.756, earning Colgate another third-place finish out of 17. The members of the frosh/novice four and eight have closed out their first fall season of their collegiate careers, while ten seniors have competed in the last fall season of their undergraduate careers.
